Hot in Herre at the Rodeo – Nelly at the Rodeo

Get your cowboy hat and bling to hear hip hop legend Nelly at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo on Saturday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. at the Frost Bank Center (formerly AT&T Center).

With a melodic rap style and pop-friendly appeal, Nelly’s ability to create catchy, memorable hits has allowed him to reach an international audience.

Born Cornell Iral Haynes Jr. in Austin, Texas, Nelly was raised in St. Louis before he and his mother settled in University City. In 1993, he and friends formed St. Lunatics, a rap group that struggled to get picked up by a record label. The group felt Nelly had the most potential to get a solo deal, and he signed with Universal Records in 1999.

Nelly’s debut album, Country Grammar, was released in the summer of 2000 and reached the top of Billboard 200. It attained platinum status in less than two months before eventually reaching diamond status. His second album, Nellyville, had top Billboard 200 hits and earned him his first two Grammy Awards with its singles “Hot in Herre” and “Dilemma.”

Nelly has appeared as a guest performer at the 2001 and 2004 Super Bowl halftime shows, was listed as one of Billboard’s Top Artist of the Decade for the 2000s, and has sold over 20 million records in the US. Outside of his music career, he is a co-founder of the fashion brands Apple Bottoms and Vokal, a co-owner of the energy drink Pimp Juice, is involved with charitable foundations, and has acted on screen, most notably in the 2005 film, “The Longest Yard.”
