Health Block Party Coming on April 27-28

The Women’s Educational & Healing Retreat Inc. presents Wellness Promotion 2024, a free two-day community health event focused on mental and physical well-being.

Rev. Dr. Claudette A. Copeland, founder and director of the Women’s Educational & Healing Retreat, Inc., started the event in 2018. Since then, more than $2 million worth of onsite services have been provided to over 2,500 people.

Starting April 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in partnership with Antioch Missionary Baptist Church (1001 N. Walters St), a mini-clinic will be open with over 50 vendors providing services such as dental x-rays, examinations, and cleanings, eye exams, cholesterol and A1c checks, and food donations.

Then, on April 28 from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at New Creation Christian Fellowship Church (8700 Fourwinds Drive, Windcrest, TX), the free clinic continues with more than 100 vendors providing more health tests, including kidney functioning tests and how to navigate advance directives and medical power of attorney assistance.

One significant aspect of the event on both days is a focus on mental health. Often, Black and Brown communities don’t have access to resources and tools to reduce increased anxiety and depression that can spiral out of control if left unchecked.

At Wellness Promotion 2024, other free services include cardiac screening, STI & HIV testing, on-site fitness classes, adult and children’s immunizations/vaccines, and veterans’ services.

There will be plenty of food, fun, and games on both days. The goal is for both days to be an informational and transformative health block party. To RSVP or learn more about the event, visit (WellnessCenterSA.com).
