BLT Celebrates Two Years

Two years going strong! The Black Life Texas staff is proud to announce its second anniversary of bringing local news to you with a unique perspective — the Black experience. We strive to provide a lens that is often overlooked, giving voice to stories and perspectives that matter to our community.

Two years for any publication can be an eternity, and often, many don’t make it out the first year. But it’s because of your unwavering support and engagement that BLT has not only survived but thrived. Publisher Carl Booker believes BLT provides a void that most other news outlets can’t claim, and it’s all thanks to you, our community.

“Our team provides news, pictures, and graphics from a Black perspective, and it’s a talented team that’s entrenched in the community,” Booker said. “We understand the nuances of having a historic Black East Side, but we also know that our community has spread across San Antonio, and the Black community is critical to the success of the city. For us, covering our stories is not just checking a DEI box; this is our life, our community, and our legacy.”

Since its launch in 2022, large and small companies and nonprofits have been advertising in the publication. BLT has also provided space for community events and programs other publications don’t cover. For instance, when the community gathered for one of the largest parties of the year – the Omega Psi Phi White Martini party, BLT staff was there taking pictures. When the Taste of New Orleans had almost every Black organization volunteering to help their event, BLT was there documenting the moment, and when some of our local trailblazers passed away, BLT had lifted them up in its pages to honor their contributions.

The BLT team is proud to announce that this coming summer, it will expand to Austin with about 3,000 issues in 24 locations. Readers can look forward to BLT with an Austin spin in many HEB stores and Jim’s Restaurants. This will benefit not only readers but also many of our advertisers who have stayed with us for the past two years.

To our readers, thank you for picking up the publication and reading the articles. We know you may not always agree with our opinion articles, but the fact that you are picking up the magazine says you are willing to read different viewpoints.
